Seven ancient modes, seven soundscapes: This electroacoustic concert blends old, new, and improvised music with jazz, rock, neoclassical, ambient, world music, and electronic sounds. Piano, live samples, and effects merge into a multifaceted musical experience. From Johann Sebastian Bach’s BWV 811 & 904 to John Adams’ “Phrygian Gates,” including improvisations on music by Radiohead and Björk, as well as original compositions.
BACH >> FORWARD
EARLY MUSIC, REIMAGINED
With keen intuition, the young Bach in Thuringia absorbed the European styles and fashions of his time and used them to create something entirely new that has stood the test of time. Let’s accept the invitation to take his curiosity a step further. For his music remains youthful when it is rearranged, skillfully combined, and experienced in an unfamiliar setting. BACH >> FORWARD — that’s classical music in a new format. There’s nothing to lose here — but plenty to discover!
For the fifth time, BACH >> FORWARD invites you to encounters with musicians who, drawing inspiration from Bach’s music, point the way toward the future of classical concerts.
