Ten years ago, the Israeli mandolin player Avi Avital caused a sensation with a recording that is still considered a milestone for his instrument: Avital's virtuoso interpretation of Bach's harpsichord concertos vividly demonstrated the versatility of the mandolin (and the exceptional nature of its performer).
