GLENN GOULD BACH FELLOWSHIP 2024-2026
Since 2020, the city of Weimar, in collaboration with the Thuringia Bach Festival, has been awarding the GLENN GOULD BACH FELLOWSHIP, funded by the Philip Loubser Foundation. It is named after one of the world's most influential and renowned pianists, known both for his legendary Bach performances and his groundbreaking commitment to modern film and recording technologies.
The fellowship honours its namesake by offering an outstanding artist the opportunity to realise a challenging project that is artistically groundbreaking and at the same time exploits innovative modern technologies.
The fellowship of gambist Liam Byrne ends in 2026. His goal was to find a new sound aesthetic – both for the way the English ‘lyra viol’ repertoire is performed and recorded. His installation invites the audience to experience the results of his experiments as an immersive listening experience of these long-forgotten musical treasures.
