Victor García García, cellist and winner of the 2024 Bach Competition in Leipzig, takes inspiration for this recital from the so-called Doubles that Bach himself wrote for the dance pieces in his solo suites, particularly in the Violin Partita No. 1, BWV 1002. These pieces follow the same harmonic progression as the main dance, but highlight it in a completely different character and with a different effect. Based on a version of the Violin Partita BWV 1002 arranged for violoncello, García García has also created a new suite of movements from various Bach cello suites and combined them with doubles, which he will improvise live in the manner of Bach.
