tiefsaits play on deep-pitched historical string instruments and unite former rivals: the cello and the viola da gamba. Bach often used both instruments and dedicated solo works to them – the three sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord and the six suites for solo cello. Excerpts from these will be audible in new form paired with beguilingly beautiful movements from Bach’s cantatas.
