J. S. Bach like never before

The Virtual Bach Experience makes the seemingly impossible possible – bringing the great composer back to life on stage as an impressively lifelike augmented reality avatar. Using state-of-the-art mixed reality technology, you will encounter Bach in a form that uniquely combines history, research and innovative technology.

Put on the AR glasses – and suddenly Bach is standing in front of you:
sometimes laughing, sometimes pensive, sometimes sharp-tongued, but always playing brilliant music. In a virtual concert-conversation, he takes his audience on a fascinating journey through his life, his thinking and his music.

The experience combines:
• Mixed reality technology with Pico4 Ultra headsets
• A digital image of Bach, created from around 1,000 historical documents
• A detailed reconstruction based on the famous Haussmann portrait from 1748
• Original spoken statements by Bach, his family and his contemporaries
• Acting, synchronised voices, authentic Baroque gestures and virtuoso harpsichord music

The result is an immersive experience that seamlessly blends reality and the virtual world – giving the impression that Bach himself is actually performing again.

The Virtual Bach Experience is a collaborative effort involving:
• renowned Bach researchers
• actors, voice actors and a harpsichordist
• a specialised 3D artist and software team
• the Leipzig-based XR studio OVRLAB, which is responsible for the technical implementation

With great attention to detail, a Bach has been created who not only looks real, but also touches the emotions.
