It is perhaps not chance that John Dowland – as a Catholic long banned from the court of Queen Elizabeth I – brought to life the most friendly and intimate form of verse songs, airs. However, they contained a whole world of love and romantic suffering. The lautten compagney Berlin makes music in the magnificent blue room of Castle Sondershausen where, as in Dowland’s time, the audience can relax around a large table in a friendly manner.
