Is there a better way to celebrate Easter Sunday and the resurrection of Christian hope than with a cantata which literally, because of its unusually high register, reaches towards heaven? “Most highly desired festival of joy “ BWV 194, originally intended for the dedication of the restored church in Störmthal near Leipzig, was renewed and performed in shortened form in 1726. The other two cantatas in our programme were written for the same year: BWV 43 for Ascension Day and BWV 19 for the feast of St Michael and All Angels. Both cantatas include three majestic heavenly trumpets and timpani.
