Between France and Thuringia – Bach & Couperin in Dialogue
In the unique atmosphere of Bach's wedding church, Dutch harpsichordist Emmanuel Frankenberg presents an impressive Bach programme. Frankenberg, who grew up in a family of Baroque musicians, studied harpsichord and natural horn at the conservatories of The Hague and Amsterdam, graduating with honours in both subjects in 2018. Today, he is in demand internationally as a soloist and ensemble leader and has already released several highly acclaimed solo recordings.
His artistic work has been recognised with awards including the Rabo–B. de Bruin Prize and the O-68 Prize.

Works
Two of the most important composers of the Baroque period meet musically in this special concert: Johann Sebastian Bach and François Couperin. Both lived at the same time, but probably never met – and yet their music is connected by a fascinating closeness. It is certain that Bach knew Couperin's works, studied them, copied them and even passed them on to his children.
The programme invites you to a musical encounter between these two masters. You will hear pieces that may have inspired each other, works by Couperin that Bach copied or reworked, as well as selected gems from their rich repertoire for harpsichord.
Cooperation
This weekend, the Thuringia Bach Festival and the Bach Festival Arnstadt are joining forces to invite visitors to enjoy an intense musical experience in the Bach town of Arnstadt, thanks to the proximity of the concerts and events.
