The project is both fascinating and courageous: initiated by the English organist, William Whitehead, composers from around the world have dedicated themselves to Johann Sebastian Bach’s incomplete organ book and have written the 118 missing pieces for which the title was initially conceived. The result is a great cycle which sets Bach’s originals in context with diverse supplements and commentaries. The new works are inspired by Bach and Brahms, Reger and Durufle and encompass contemporary styles such as minimalism, jazz and pop. A varied selection from the old/new Organ Book can be heard within the framework of an organ afternoon which leads from organs in the Bach church to the Liebfrauen church. A celebration not only for adventurous organ enthusiasts.
