Now and again a small piece of music succeeds in arousing lasting enthusiasm. After the young French violinist, Theotime Langlois de Swarte, heard the ground, a simple ostinato bass, by John Eccles from his theatre music for “The Mad Lover”, he was so impressed that he worked intensively with the varied musical repertoire of 17th Century England. He found an ally in the lutenist, Thomas Dunford, with whom he shares his joy in improvisation alongside virtuosity.
