V1 | The Bach Store (New York)
Evan Shinners – piano

daily from 12.00 – 18.00, in the evening after 19.00
Erfurt, Popup Store [F11]

It really is a typical pop-up store which even made it into a New York Times editorial. The pianist, Evan Shinners, graduate of the famous Julliard School, rented an empty shop in order to play Bach for a whole month – for five hours a day with free entry for an audience of passers-by and those who were interested. Since then the Bach store has been repeated on the famous Wall Street and artist friends performed alongside Shinners.

Now the Bach store has arrived in Thuringia! For two weeks Shinners will appear, in the Erfurt city centre the doors will open for his performances and evening concerts and discussions with guests associated with Bach – and everyone is welcome, in their lunch breaks, after shopping or before a doctor’s appointment, to discover Bach for themselves. Variety is guaranteed!

The programme for evening events will be announced shortly.

V 6 | Die Himmelsburg
A virtual resurrection

daily from 12.00 – 18.00
Weimar, Stadtschloss

Rolf Kruse, Florian Scharfe, Luzius Koelling – visual reconstruction
Stefan Weinzierl, Christoph Böhm, Tobias Kirchner, Jörg Arnold, David Ackermann – acoustic reconstruction / auralisation
Cantus Thuringia & Capella, Bernhard Klapprott – recording

The castle chapel in Weimar is a true dream destination for Bach fans. Bach wrote his wonderful Weimar cantatas for this unconventional church space with its organ gallery high up. The so-called castle of heaven, which was destroyed by fire in 1774, will be virtually resurrected: in an ambitious project the Thuringia Bach Festival with a group of specialists will develop a virtual reality version of the castle of heaven. With glasses and headphones Bach fans will be able to undertake an excursion into Bach’s time and with Cantata 182 also experience the acoustics of the castle chapel.
