Pierre-Laurent Aimard
Goldberg Variations BWV 988 and works by Arnold Schönberg

Pierre-Laurent Aimard is undoubtedly one of the leading pianists of our time. After meeting Olivier Messiaen at the age of twelve, he quickly became one of the most famous interpreters of the composer’s works. He has a close relationship with conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli and Pierre Boulez, in whose ensemble, InterContemporain, he appeared as a piano soloist for more than 18 years. He thus became one of the most important interpreters of, and guides to, contemporary music – together with Nikolaus Harnoncourt he has also set standards for Mozart and Beethoven. He has been honoured on many occasions for his Bach recordings. He connects both these poles in a masterly way in his intelligent concert programming, as he does in Arnstadt when he combines Bach’s Goldberg Variations with exciting works by Webern and Stockhausen.
