Helena Zemanova and Francesco Romano
Bach and the court lute

With the Baroque lute this concert is devoted to an instrument which blossomed during Bach’s lifetime. The most famous virtuoso lutenist at that time was Silvius Leopold Weiss who worked at the Dresden court and who got to know Bach in Leipzig in 1739. The Suite (BWV 1025) probably dates from this time and forms one of the central works of this programme. Appearing as a soloist in the Bach House is Francesco Romano, a specialist in historic plucked instruments who has worked with Jordi Savall, Christophe Coin and John Eliot Gardiner amongst others. Performing with him is the Baroque violinist, Helena Zemanova, Concert Master of Collegium 1704 in Prague, of Gli Incogniti and Gli Angeli Genève.
