Simone Rubino was always keen to make music with anything that came to hand. He would let loose a volley of rhythmic fireworks in his mother’s kitchen with saucepans, frying pans and glasses; all sorts of real instruments came later. Since then the Italian multi-percussionist has won the well-known ARD Competition in 2014 and the Credit Suisse Young Artists Award in 2016 and has appeared regularly with leading festivals and orchestras around the world.
His programme immortal Bach involves a fascinating combination of an arrangement of Bach’s third cello suite with new works. “The way in which he combines old and new with virtuosity, dynamism and delicacy at the same time has a touch of the meditative and is clearly addictive” was the verdict of the Suddeutsche Zeitung. He manages to open an impressive sound world for which the unusual concert venues in Apolda and in Erfurt provide ideal settings.
