In 2025, the Thuringian Bach Weeks are organizing the first pre-Easter Carmette Concerts - three concerts with three liturgical sections by three composers in three cities in Thuringia: Gotha, Erfurt and Weimar. The focus is on the Lamentations of Jeremiah by Johann Rosenmüller, Old Testament texts about the destroyed Jerusalem, which were understood as an analogy to the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. The Lamentatio is complemented by motets and sacred songs in German by Heinrich Schütz and contemporaries and ends with the corresponding responsory by Jan Dismas Zelenka. According to the occasion, the carmettes are gradually reduced and take place an hour later each day, so that on Saturday they end a cappella with a four-part “Christus factus est”.
