truth and life
Eight people, seven languages meet. They fight about words. They quote the Bible and Goethe, someone has the Communist Manifesto with them. They research, practise, dissect words and phrases, build them up and give them new meanings. They talk, whisper, stammer, laugh. Somewhere in the middle they meet up in Bach’s motets. Bach as the beginning, middle and end – a starting point for any kind of communal singing, a consensus. The Berlin vocal soloist ensemble, THE PRESENT, chooses the attractive contrast between Bach and Berio for an extraordinary concert programme, which underlines the singers’ exceptional quality.
