Johann Sebastian Bach
St Matthew Passion BWV 244

The English tenor, Mark Padmore, is currently considered to be probably the world’s greatest Bach passion Evangelist. His collaboration a few years ago with Peter Sellars and the Berlin Philharmonic on the dramatisation of the St Matthew Passion was unforgettable. On the 333rd anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s birth he makes his debut as a conductor. As part of the Thuringia Bach Festival he will direct an ensemble of excellent singers and the famous Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment – and will demonstrate his definitive interpretation of this incomparable work as both conductor and Evangelist.
