«Without Bach, there would be no techno»

This statement comes from the pianist Francesco Tristano and shows that here a musician is not afraid of modern music. The pianist from Luxemburg is one of the keenest experimental pianists of our time. In his programmes he combines early and new music, appears as pianist, conductor and DJ and comes back time and again to Johann Sebastian Bach. This time he dresses Bach’s famous Goldberg Variations anew in homage to the composer and architect, Iannis Xenakis and his idea of the cosmic city. Building on this Tristano has developed a visual design concept that is generated in real time through his playing. Thus a town emerges on a vast projection screen, guided live by the music and built out of the musical structure of Bach’s work.
